Bull Terrier Breeder

If you take your time and look for a good Bull Terrier Breeder, you may not worry about any problems with your dog, since true breeders work hard to improve the breed and rid it from behavioral and physical abnormalities. Bull Terriers are not intended for dog fighting. They have a merry and clownish temperament, and are not supposed to act aggressively.

Bull Terriers originated in England, and they are believed to have been generated by crossing the English Bulldog and the White Terrier, which is now extinct. Later, the gene of the Spanish Pointer was added. In the 1860s, breeders exerted efforts to create a “gladiator” dog, so the dog was supposed to be courageous, enduring and protective. Those days, only white Bull Terriers were acceptable among Bull Terrier Breeders. Today, these dogs come in white, brindle, black or tri-color patterns.

The Bull Terrier of today is a very communicative and people-oriented companion. These dogs are very affectionate and protective around their loved ones. They never exhibit unmotivated aggression against strangers, although they are naturally suspicious about them. For this reason, Bull Terrier Breeders strongly recommend that puppies be socialized from early on. Bull Terriers are naturally wary of other dogs. Males are extremely territorial, and two males will not make a good chemistry in one house.

Bull Terriers can vary in size, but the most common size for them is 22-25 inches high at the shoulders. There are also Miniature Bull terriers, measuring 10-14 inches tall at the withers. They have stocky bodies and elongated heads with small triangular eyes. Bull Terriers have very strong jaws. They should not be trusted with non-canine pets. Bull Terrier Breeders do not recommend these dogs for families with young children, because they hate being teased and are strong enough to knock a child over.

Bull Terriers are prone to several serious genetic abnormalities, such as deafness, epilepsy, kneecap dislocation, hip dysplasia, excessive testosterone (in males), lens luxation (a serious eye problem, which is fraught with total blindness) and some other disorders. Some species may have genetic behavioral abnormalities, which can be hard to correct. You will probably not have to worry about your dog’s genetic health and potential if you purchase a dog from a conscientious and reputable Bull Terrier Breeder.
